Love and what we do for love :)

Love and what we do for love. I don't mean romantic love when I say love. For me love is something completely different. I love my close friends, and I'm not ashamed to say it to them. Sadly, people always assume love has this romantic component to it. That when you say you love someone, there is romance involved. But platonic friendships do exist, does romance stop you from loving your friends? Also do you not love your parents? Siblings? So love, in its most innocent meaning. Love with its sacrifice, it's kindness, it's emotions.

I just finished reading The Alchemist so some of this might be taken from there. Some might be from other books or movies. From people.

Now this post won't be about love, it self. It will be about what love makes us do, or what we choose to do for love.

So in The Alchemist, there is a conversation between the boy and the Sun and it is about love. Anyway it said the Sun's love for the Earth made it keep it's distance from it. If the sun gets closer to us, we would burn. And if it moves away, we would freeze. So even though the Sun loves us, it has to keep its distance.

Sometimes we need distance our selves from people, because it's what's best for all, and because we love them enough to do what hurts us. And sometimes they don't understand why we need to keep our distance from them. But even if you can't explain it, even if it hurts, you must do it.

Love also makes us change, even when we don't want to. But it just needs to happen. You slowly adapt, and adapting is changing. Their untrimmed finger nails will annoy you at first, slowly you will tell them to trim them. And they will, whenever they can, and until they remember, you will not complain about their untrimmed nails.

The thing about change is that, we don't always want to change. And we can't and we shouldn't expect others to change. However, we must sometimes make slight changes or being with someone will be just a set of conflicts, disagreements and arguments. So make those changes when needed.

I believe in honesty. Yet, love makes us hide the truth sometimes. There is a difference between not telling the truth and lying. When you lie, you are giving out false information. When you don't tell the truth, you are withholding information. Sometimes we love people too much to tell them the truth, we fear the truth will make them love us less. But they deserve to know the truth and if we truly love them, we will tell them the truth. The truth may hurt them, telling it may hurt you, but never ever hide the truth from the people you love.

Love also makes us choose, and sometimes when life offers us a choice, love snaps that chance away from us; it chooses on behalf of us. We let go of people, because we love them too much and love is selfish. But love is also selfless. It can be and it should be. So we make a choice, and it's not what we want, but it's what's best for us.

Esther Day is much like Valentines Day. Except it's not about romantic love. It's about love, no matter what kind it is. I don't think there should be just one day to talk about your feelings with people. For sometimes, by the time a day like Esther Day comes along, or we thinks its the right time, that love is gone. Because love isn't forever.

I love people. And this love has made me do various things. Sometimes I wish love didn't exist, because people can hurt us when there is love of some sort involved. Maybe they don't intentionally hurt us. With love, comes pain. But happiness too.

I think sharing quotes from The Alchemist won't hurt anyone. Enjoy! :)

“One is loved because one is loved. No reason is needed for loving.”
Paulo Coelho, The Alchemist

“So, I love you because the entire universe conspired to help me find you.”
Paulo Coelho, The Alchemist

“When we love, we always strive to become better than we are. When we strive to become better than we are, everything around us becomes better too.”
Paulo Coelho, The Alchemist
“This is what we call love. When you are loved, you can do anything in creation. When you are loved, there's no need at all to understand what's happening, because everything happens within you.”
Paulo Coelho, The Alchemist

“Because true love never keeps a man from pursuing his destiny”
Paulo Coelho, The Alchemist
