On Cheating

People are a lot of things. Liars, killers, thieves and so on. People can also be well-read, intelligent, considerate. Each thing a person is will either make you respect them more, or respect them less. Of everything a person is, something that will make me respect them is if they read. And I will lose all respect for a person if they cheat. Cheating can take various forms. You can cheat on things. Your taxes, your job. Sports. There are so many things you can cheat on. If it in anyway involves lies, deceit, betrayal, you are most probably cheating.  “sometimes it's okay to cheat on things - but don't ever cheat on people. because once you start, it's very hard to stop. you find out how easy it is to do.” ― David Levithan , Will Grayson, Will Grayson Friendship. Let's say that A and B are best friends. Slowly, A starts ignoring B, and instead starts hanging out with C. For some reason, A feels the need to lie to B about his friendship with...

Good v Bad

Lines tend to be quite thin. Too thin, in fact. Where's the line between like and love? How thick is the line between enough and too much? Where is that line and how thin is it? We tend to always over step boundaries. It's difficult to always keep your guard up. Sometimes, you forget. Or it's just who you are. And you cross that line. It could be more physical contact that usual. For instance, I may not mind if A hugs me, but I may mind if B hugs me. It depends on the individual. How long you've known someone for, how much you know them, and how you know them. Yet, with anyone and everyone, there is always a line. And at some point that line is crossed. While you are better off making your boundaries clear to people, this isn't always possible. So when someone crosses that line, making you uncomfortable, let them know. Tell them that they need to take a step back. Don't ever let someone make you feel uncomfortable because you are afraid that they'll be h...

The Truth

Image
Something we always avoid is the truth. The truth is bitter, a lie seems better. But you can spin tales, tell a thousand lies, and yet, the truth will remain the truth. No one may know this is the truth, but it will still be the truth (reminds me of knowledge and how knowing doesn't make something more or less real. Knowing the Earth orbits around the sun, doesn't change the fact that it does.) And yet, the truth is the hardest to say. You can't look into someone's eyes, or even sit next to them and tell them the truth. Especially when the truth isn't what they want to hear. And when the truth is what you wish you didn't have to say. Sometimes I wish I could tell people that I need a moment to be honest with them. Tell them the truth, no matter how hurtful or selfish it is. In Will Grayson, Will Grayson, straight Will has ten minutes of honesty with Jane. I need that with certain people. I need them to not interrupt, but listen while I tell them...

Religion (a non finger-pointing post!)

Image
Two subjects that must be avoid in most conversations are religion and politics. Since my knowledge of politics is as vast as my knowledge of French Cuisine, I will avoid it. Instead, religion! On a forum I often visit, a discussion that interested me was, "Do you belong to a religion?" Before that I had thought about religion, but never asked my self what was expected of one. So this won't be about God or god or gods. My belief or rather lack of belief in a higher power needn't be discussed here. Instead, the general idea of a religion. What is really expected from a religion? Comfort. Religion is that blanket you feel safer with. It may be hot, and you maybe sweating and yet, you need that blanket. It gives you an odd sense of comfort. That feeling of jumping from a high place knowing a safety net will catch you. Answers. What is life? What am I here to do? What will happen to me after death? Religion answers these questions. If you take a dictionary, ...

Blogging My Responsibility

Image
The Nation When you are in charge of someone or have to take care of something, karma seems to remember you, suddenly. With responsibility comes catastrophe. Everything seems to go wrong. This is why I generally avoid taking up responsibilities for others. Yet, there are certain responsibilities in life, which, I’ve realized, I tend to ignore or neglect with joy. Unlike most families, we don’t have a pet at home. There was once a cat who decided to live with us, but one morning he was gone. So, besides the wandering cats and squirrels, we haven’t had a pet for many years, which made me demand for one sometime last year. At one point, it did not matter to me what the pet should be, even a baby fish in a tank would have made me happy. My mother opposed the idea. The main reason was that I wasn’t responsible enough. I agree with her. I tend to forget too many chores and tasks given to me. Post-its remind me of things I have to do. Sometimes, I have to remind myself to go th...

Forgiveness

Let’s begin with one thing; I rarely forgive. Now don’t think I don’t know why it’s important to forgive. When you don’t forgive, you only hurt your self. You have all these bottled up feelings inside you and they will slow you in life. Yet, when you forgive, you say, “Okay, it’s water under the bridge. We’ll consider the slate clean.” Which is all good. You are happy, your mind and heart aren’t weighed down. And then, when you least expect it, that person does something bad to you again. This is because forgiveness is often misheard as, “Look, you hurt me, but I’ll forget it all, and yes, when you stomp on me again, I will forgive you.” People forgive out of kindness. They are forgiving people. Sometimes people forgive because what they will lose if they don’t is just too much. So they think, “No, he won’t hurt me again.” And yet, once a cheater, always a cheater. Once a liar, always a liar. Now asking for forgiveness. Why did you do something that required you to ask for ...

To Move On

We live our lives doing every possible thing we can to make sure people miss us when we are gone. May be not intentionally, but every message we send, every conversation, every smile. Those things make us mean more to people. And how much we are missed depends on how much we meant to someone. For the purposes of explaining this, well, someone I've spoken to may be twice would miss me less than someone who I've spoken to a dozen times. And someone I have known for a month will take less time to stop missing me than someone who knew me for one year. In the end, people stop missing us at some point. And yet, some twisted thing in our mind makes us assume that we will never get over someone. I recently made a 'People of the Past' list. Here I listed the names of the people who once meant a lot to me. The people I pushed away in my life. There are four names on that list. Four people I once loved or thought I did and don't care about anymore. And it's not people ...
